What it takes to realistically do this

Page history last edited by daenin 1 yr ago

Understanding what it takes: Here is my best initial thoughts on this, please add to it.or make comments if objections come up or you have a better alternatiive.

Phase 1 The Idea Phase

You must be the Change is about trasitioning into something more effective than a debt-based economy which may be a "Resource Based Economy". And at the same time to do this, those of us who choose this direction  may have to work twice as hard to give birth to it. We will need support of many kinds to succeed. During this first Phase, certain principles will be emphasized as well as individuals who understand and embody these principles and are committed to them. For You must Be the Change to sustain as an organized action network, usable wiki site and effective resource- It will require many dedicated individuals who are committed to:

  1. Living in both worlds.  Keeping the dayjob, working for the man (in a debt-based economy) or in your biz while taking regular and consistant steps beyond that (think of it as a volunteer 2nd job for humanity) to invest money in the infrastructure and model development and time into the testing of models for sustainable business collectives operating sociocratically. Those who want to do this, may want to start looking at ways to create more scheduled consistant time to devote and ways to gather resources to support the cause.
  2. There will be a learning curve, it will take some time. People need to watch the movies, Have meetings to learn about what sociocracy is and learn how to implement the practices, need to have time to think about it, object or investigate, and have feelings about things. People sometimes need to learn about themselves and about working together and dealing with ugly ego issues. Personal responsibility and follow through. Learning about their strengths and weaknessnesses, overcoming their prejudices.
  3. Phase 1 the idea Phase, the initial creative big-push or birthing of the entity that is "You must be the Change" is one that visionaries and creative fiery and airy people are drawn to. Understanding and acknowledging the gifts and unique skillsets of these people is crucial to knowing how to ensure their happiness and their continued infusion of visionary genius into the collective.  These people value new experiences more than stability. So creating opportunities for them to encounter lots of stimulus and inspiring  connections keeps them happy and connected to their vision. For those visions to have any meaning or to become a compelling voice of hope that inspires action it will require:
  4. Sustainers and implementers, who are not idea-visionary people. People who are highly organized, maybe even a little conservative, who are dependable and consistant and who you can count on to take action on following through on actionable aspects of the vision. By respecting, thanking, rewarding and understanding these people the baton gets passed on and the organization will have a heartbeat of steadiness that keeps it alive and working. These people value security and stability, so creating incentives for these people keeps them happy and effective. Operating Sociocratically insures that the visions are moderated by the intelligence of a group which can build a sense of security knowing that the collective intelligence of the group is working toward the common good of each of it's members who have a significant voice, initiative and representation. Many organizations in the past have been built with only visionaries and then just halt after the "big push" is over because the creation part is done and that is the part that is valuable to them.

Phase 2 The Testing Phase

We will need different skillsets in the second phase.  Different kinds of People who can help refine an already existing system while harnessing visionary and sustainer functions. These will be used to create a real time bio-feedback for the organization as to what is really working and what needs refinement. In this phase, idea models are turned into actual projects in real life, tested and refined to create deliverable models for sustainable economy that are as foolproof and bulletproof as possible. This is a research and development Phase. Some of these skillsets may have the following titles:

  1. Scribes: these include a. people taking the minutes in meeting and then posting them to the web all cleaned up. b. Photographers c.videographers d. interviewers. e. your ideas here
  2. Bridges: These are people who have a variety of skills in both sustainer and visionary skillsets. They will act as harmonizers and translators between groups to increase understanding morale and efficiency. Co-councelors, mediators, social-gatherers
  3. Researchers: These are the the ones who will take the ideas and compare them to other models online, in other countries, and to professionals in the field with discretion, tact and efficiency.
  4. Presenters: these are the people who can succinctly convey an idea in an interesting way.
